Due to some scheduling
controversies...and other forces beyond our control we will have to
cancel the 2010 Ed Key Invitational...sorry for any inconvenience
that this may cause you and look forward to your support for next
year.
In the first meet of the indoor season, the Broncos show why
they are still towards the top of the heap. In a packed meet the
boys and girls of the Kenwood track & field teams garnered
overall team victories on both the boys and girls side.
Key headliners were the jump trio of Matthew Funches,
Brock Massie and Keith Ross; Caja Calhoun and Danielle Dugain
headlined the girlsâ side, among
others. The relays performed well at
DeLaSalleâs Golden Cup
Invitational.Â
Caja Calhoun won the 200m meters and beat the field by over a
half second. Newcomer and freshman Diana Dugan had
As Kawanna Brooks
closed out her high school and age group career she hoped to do it
as a national champion. As she prepared for her final meet of
the summer season Brooks was primed and ready to give it a
go. While primarily working on her hurdling and 400m
capacity...Brooks wowed the crowds. Brooks managed to squeak
out some good performances in the high jump (5'0"), stay
consistently in the 14's in the hurdles, and jumped near 19' on
every outing. "Yeah...my coach gave me a good regimen of
speed work and 400’s as

This past weekend (June 13)
at the Senior All-Star Meet Kawanna backed up her superstar
potential and further cemented her place as one of the best

sport) since 2002. Matthew rocketed a fine triple jump
performance which placed in him 12th overall in the state.
With this being his first time at the triple jump, Funches looks to
have a bright future ahead of him in this event. Way to
go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Other stellar performances from the state sectional were Keith
Ross in the triple jump (2nd place) and Brock Massie in the high
and triple jumps (2nd
Kawanna Brooks went
out with a bang. The
last two state finals had been virtually disastrous. Brooks over the past two state
finals had come in as one of the favorites in the triple jump and
had subsequently walked away empty handed, having to watch from the
stands as other competitors performed on Saturday of the state
finals, knowing that she should have been a part
With one of the worse state sectionals on record (in terms of
weather) in the books, the lady Broncos get set for their final
meet (as Kenwood Broncos) of the 2009 campaign. Of course
Kawanna won the long jump, triple jump, and the 100m hurdles but
the day did not afford her good marks. The day started and
ended with a driving rain coupled with 50 degree
temperatures. "It's amazing she was able to come close to 17
feet in the long, 37 feet in the triple, and run 15.5 with
absolutely no competition (2nd place ran 19.6), said Coach
Simon. She will be fine for the
